Luisa Omielan
“One of the biggest stand up hits of the decade” – The Guardian
Luisa Omielan is a stand-up, improviser and actress who has performed sold out shows around the globe, released a book, appeared on Live at the Apollo, recorded a DVD, presented Comic Relief 2017 and had her debut solo show aired on BBC1.
Luisa was the underground smash hit at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2012 where she performed her 5 Star, critically acclaimed, debut solo show ‘What Would Beyonce Do?!‘ – strongly agreed to be one of the most successful debut shows to come out of the Fringe.
The show has sold out several UK tours, including dates at the main room at London’s Soho Theatre (her run was extended 5 times due to popular demand), the Underbelly Festival and at the EdFringe in the Gilded Balloon and at the EICC. She has also toured around the world including New York, LA, Singapore, Melbourne, Perth, Estonia and more. Luisa was invited to perform her show with Just For Laughs at the Montreal Comedy Festival – 1 of only 3 comics invited over from the UK.
‘What Would Beyonce Do?!’ aired on BBC1 on 18th May 2017.
Luisa’s second show ‘Am I Right Ladies?!‘ debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as a follow up to the hugely successful debut. She received an overwhelming amount of attention with 4 and 5 star reviews and features in The Guardian, The British Comedy Guide, The Times, The Metro, The Evening Standard and the Independent. She subsequently took this show on a worldwide tour too.
Her fans crowdfunded a campaign to film ‘Am I Right Ladies?!’ for a DVD which was recorded at the Bloomsbury Theatre and sold thousands of copies.
Currently, a clip of the show filmed in Montreal has over 40,000,000 views online.
As well as performing these two hit shows, which have both been nominated for ‘Best Comedy Show’ in Melbourne, Luisa has also found time to appear at Stylist Live, Latitude, Reading, Leeds and V festivals and the Vodafone Comedy Festival. She also hosted a night at the BBC’s Edinburgh Festival tent, showcasing her favourite stand ups at the Fringe and now curates her own monthly night called ‘Fresh’ at London’s Soho Theatre.
Luisa kicked off 2017 with her annual Valentines Special show. For the past 2 years, these have sold out at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, with fashion powerhouse New Look sponsoring this years. She then presented Comic Relief alongside Lenny Henry and Jonathan Ross, appeared on BBC Breakfast, was named on the Radio Times’ One to Watch list and appeared on Comedy Central’s Drunk History and ITV2’s Celebability.
Luisa recently completed a UK tour with her new show ‘Luisa Omielan: Live’. This is a powerful show detailing recent events in her private life, including the tragic loss of her mother due to a short but brutal battle with cancer. Luisa deals with topics such as bereavement, cannabis and palliative care. The finale took place at Shepherds Bush Empire on December 14th 2017 to a sell out crowd.
Currently, Luisa is writing new material for her BBC3 show ‘Politics for Bitches’.
